Tom Ford Perfume Consultation

For Ford Perfume Consultation

Today I went to a Tom Ford perfume consultation in Magasin. I was recommended the consultation by Anette from Beautyspace and it was well worth it!

Let me start by saying that the Tom Ford concession in Magasin is luxurious and stylish. With my interior design background I really appreciate the effort of a beautifully designed space, everything was designed down to last last detail and it really suited the brand.

On to the consultation. The Tom Ford consultant was very welcoming and she started off by telling be about Tom Ford’s background and how he left his hometown to become and architect and then discovered a passion for fashion design.

Then she asked my what kind for fragrance I liked, what notes that I usually looked for and whether I was looking for a daytime or evening perfume. I told her that I usually do well in fragrances that have notes citrus, fruit, and light flowers. Fragrances that are too deep, spicy and contain vanilla usually don’t smell great on my skin. After that she selected some perfumes for me to try:

  • Venetian Bergamot
  • Rive d’Ambre
  • Café Rose
  • Black Orchid
  • Mandarino Di Amalfi

Tom Ford Perfume Consultation

Venetian Bergamot

It is a fragrance inspired by Venice and the luxurious scent of bergamot. Back in the day bergamot was a scent reserved for the rich, so this fragrance has an elegance to it.

Description by Tom Ford: “Elegant, Spakling, Sensual.”

Notes of: bergamot, pepper, and tonka beans.

I liked this fragrance, but it had more spicy notes that would suit me. But it was perfect for my fiancé.

Rive d’Ambre

This is another citrus scent with a twist of warm amber.

Description by Tom Ford: “Ornate, Compelling, Warm.”

Notes of: amber, bergamot, bitter orange, mint, cardamom, and cognac.

This is my favorite of the perfumes I tried today! I love it. The citrus comes out very strongly  at first on my skin, but them it warms up and becomes sophisticated and sensual. Love love love!

Café Rose

This fragrance is inspired by a labyrinth of dark roses.

Description by Tom Ford: “Enticing, Exotic, Seductive.”

Notes of: Turkish rose, Bulgarian rose, and coffee.

I told the consultant that I was surprised that rose suits my skin chemistry. So she selected this one to try. It is a lovely fragrance, but I think my personality is more suited to a lighter rose fragrance.

Black Orchid

Inspired by the fantasy of how a black orchid would smell, Tom Ford created this fragrance.

Description by Tom Ford: “A luxurious and sensual fragrance of rich, dark accords and an alluring potion of black orchids, and spice, Tom Ford’s Black Orchid is both modern and timeless.”

Notes of: French jasmine, black truffle, dark chocolate, and vanilla.

This one is a bit too rich for me. Unfortunately vanilla is a perfume note that my skin doesn’t agree with. On the sample paper it smelled lovely, but just not the right fragrance for me.

Mandarino Di Amalfi

This fragrance was inspired by the smell of citrus trees in the morning on the Amalfi coast.

Description by Tom Ford: “Effervescent, Textured, Luminous.”

Notes of: mint, black currant, grapefruit, orange blossom, jasmine, and musk.

On the sample paper I loved this fragrance. It was multilayered and lovely. But unfortunately on my skin it just became sweet and one-note. I was so said about this. I chuck it down to body chemistry. It is a really wonderful fragrance, so please try it out. Unfortunate it’s just not suited to me.

I also tried some Tom Ford lipsticks. There will be a mini review and swatches on the blog tomorrow.
