I’ve had the Nivea Men After Shave Balm for about a month now. After watching a review of Nivea Men After Shave Balm on NikkieTutorials (here) I decided to give it a try. So I went to my local supermarket and bought one. The next morning I was excited to try it.
Writing this post I just realized that I got my hands on the original one and not the one for sensitive skin, so please have that in mind.
My first impressions were:
- it smells like a man – not a big fan of the scent and it lasts all day on me.
- a lot of product comes out the bottle top and you only need a very small amount.
- went on smoothly and dried down to a tacky finish.
- foundation applied beautifully on top.
On the picture above you can see the consistency. This amount of product was enough for my hand and my arm all the way up to my elbow, so you only need a very tiny amount on your face. But unfortunate it’s very hard to control how much comes out of the bottle.
So I went to work and kept looking at how my makeup lasted during the day. I was very impressed! My makeup looked beautiful all day long. My foundation looked fresh and smooth at the end of my workday and my blush was still as smooth and hadn’t faded one bit. It is in fact an amazing makeup primer.
I used it daily for about a week and then I stopped. I loved it as a makeup primer, but my skin started reacting to it. The first couple of days I was in denial and didn’t want to give it up. But after a week my skin was so bad that I had to. I have a feeling that it was the very strong scent and the alcohol that made my skin react. But my skin is very sensitive. The one for sensitive skin doesn’t contain alcohol.
My original plan with this post was to do a half face with and without, but because my skin reacted the way it did, I’m afraid to use the Nivea Men After Shave Balm (non-sensitive) again. I can see that Boots.com has a sensitive version. I will give that I try and report back.
I would still recommend Nivea Men After Shave Balm as a makeup primer. It’s very inexpensive so there is no harm in giving it a try, unless you are allergic to the ingredients, then please don’t use it! But otherwise I would definitely give it a go. Makeup looks beautiful on top and lasts a long time.
